The Toronto Pearson International Airport YYZ is the busiest airport in all of Canada and the 30th busiest in the whole world! This comes as no surprise when the statistics roll in, with tens of millions of passengers flying to and from this airport yearly to over 183 destinations worldwide in 63 different countries. It is also the second largest employment zone in Canada.
The YYZ Airport has 5 main runways and averages around 1,250 departure flights every single day! The sheer amount of daily flights is made possible by the 75 airlines operating them at the YYZ Airport.
The Pearson International Airport has two main terminals – Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Transporting between the terminals is made possible thanks to the Terminal Link. The Terminal Link is a train service that works for both departures and arrivals. It works constantly and transports passengers to and from both terminals. The in-terminal shuttle service is also available and can be flagged down throughout the airport if you’re in a hurry or need assistance to get around. You can also find the in-terminal shuttle services at the multiple signs titled “wait here for mobility assistance”.
Interesting facts Toronto Pearson International Airport
Both terminals handle domestic and international flights, with Terminal 1 handling a larger number of flights due to the fact that it is larger in size. Terminal 1 was also more recently opened and is said to be the largest building in the world by floor space.
In both terminals, the ground level is for transportation services, pick-ups and access to the parking. Also for both terminals, the first level is for arrivals. Here, the arriving passengers can go through passport control and clear customs and head over to baggage claim. Furthermore, the second floor is dedicated to the departing passengers.
Gates A, B, and C can be found at Terminal 3 (46 gates in total), while gates D, E, and F can be found at Terminal 1 (58 gates in total). As for level 3, it is home for the international check-in services and boarding area in Terminal 1, and it is home for connecting flights in Terminal 3.
